Challenges

Since 1969, Pacific Automation has been supplying electrical and automation products, solutions, and support for industrial operations across Australia. Serving industries such as mining, oil & gas, power & energy, petrochemical, civil, agricultural, and manufacturing, they have built a strong reputation for reliability and expertise.

As their product catalog grew, they faced several challenges in managing product data effectively. A significant portion of their SKUs lacked enriched attributes and proper categorisation, making it difficult for customers to find the right products. Many products were missing key content such as images and datasheets, impacting both customer experience and online discoverability. Additionally, their ERP system held far more SKUs than were available online, highlighting the need for a structured approach to product data management.

Solution

To improve product data management, Pacific Automation implemented a structured taxonomy and schema design to organise their extensive catalog. Every SKU was classified within a clear taxonomy, ensuring consistency and making it easier for both internal teams and customers to find products. This provided a strong foundation for better data governance and product enrichment.

With the taxonomy in place, they selected and implemented Plytix as their PIM solution, enabling more efficient data management and enrichment processes. Later followed by integration with their new BigCommerce platform, ensuring accurate and well-structured product data was delivered to their online store. This approach improved product discoverability, enhanced data accuracy, and created a better experience for customers.
