Ethical considerations of AI-generated product content

Over the last couple of years, AI-generated product content has become part of everyday practice for a large number of retailers, distributors, and manufacturers. And why not?! It’s an absolute boon for:

  • Drafting descriptions
  •  Localising copy
  • Extracting product attributes
  • Generating imagery
  • Producing channel-specific variants

All the above, done at a speed which manual teams cannot (and no longer need to) match. To merchants with serious growth ambitions, this is an accelerator in an era of scaling catalogue sizes, stringent SEO demands, and constantly rising pressure regarding the proliferation of sales channels.

Accuracy is the first ethical test

AI models inherit patterns from their training data. What you put in, you get out. This includes cultural, gender, and social bias.   • Having clear data processing protocols with vendors

Compliance still belongs to humans

AI generates content. What it can’t do is take responsibility for the consequences of its output (“Anyone for hallucinations?”)

Humans have to remain accountable for:
