What is ETL?

A data integration process used in migrating and managing data between systems. It involves extracting data from a source system, transforming it to correct inconsistencies, format it uniformly, and enrich its quality, and then loading it into a target system for analysis or operational use. ETL is essential for ensuring data accuracy and usability in new environments, supporting tasks like data warehousing, business intelligence, and data migration, while minimising the risk of data loss or corruption. In product information management, it is often used in a product data migration project, transferring data from a legacy system to a newly-installed PIM or MDM platform.
